What Is a Ceramic Dental Crown?
A ceramic crown is a full-coverage restoration that fits over a damaged or weakened tooth to restore its strength, shape, and natural appearance. Unlike metal-based crowns, ceramic crowns are:
- Metal-free, ideal for patients with allergies or aesthetic preferences
- Tooth-colored, for a seamless, natural look
- Strong and long-lasting, especially for front and back teeth
- Biocompatible and gentle on the surrounding gum tissue
We may recommend a ceramic crown to:
- Strengthen a cracked or worn tooth
- Restore a tooth after tooth-colored fillings have become too large
- Cover a tooth after root canal treatment
- Replace an old metal or damaged crown
- Anchor a dental bridge
- Complete a dental implant
Our Ceramic Crown Process
Step 1: Consultation and Imaging
We begin with a comprehensive exam and 3D CT imaging to assess the tooth and surrounding structures.
Step 2: Tooth Preparation
The damaged tooth is gently reshaped to make space for the crown. If the tooth is severely damaged, we may build it up with core material for added support.
Step 3: Digital Impressions
We take highly accurate digital impressions, ensuring your crown fits perfectly.
Step 4: Temporary Crown Placement
You’ll leave with a temporary crown while your final ceramic crown is being custom-fabricated.
Step 5: Final Crown Placement
In about two weeks or sooner, with same-day CEREC technology, your permanent crown is bonded securely. Final adjustments are made for a perfect fit.
